I am replacing the brake pads on my Toyota Corolla and I need to know which ones are the best and will last the longest. There are: carbon metalic brake pads, duralast gold, valucraft, or morse ceramic. Any help I would appreciate it. Thanks.

i usually think the most expensive one would be most durable usually but look into them more sometimes u can get the least expensive one to do the same as the expensive one

Ceramic, they make no noise and they last the longest

  4. Damion M says:

Your going to replace your brakes after time anyway go for the Duralast. You usually get a warranty even with the cheapest brakes you purchase.

Brake pads are important and, yes, there is a difference between all the different types. I recommend you purchase them directly from the dealer (original equipment) since these are specially made and tested on your specific vehicle. You can find discounted coupons in your area’s Pennysaver (usually) or dealerships will give you a 10% discount if you have AAA Club. Be careful of shops that give you too low of a price since they may use inferior pads – be sure to turn your rotors.

You will get some varied opinions on this. The basic options in brake pad materials are organic (non-metallic), semi-metallic, and ceramic. I recently had brakes replaced, and I went with the ceramic. However I drive a big van that went through a set of pads in 40K miles. If you go ceramic (which is a harder material) you’ll probably also want to consider ceramic rotors because the pad will wear the rotors harder. Ceramic pads don’t dust up as like semi-metallic pads. Although both work fine, one advantage of semi-metallic pads is slightly better performance (i.e. stopping power).

If you’re keeping the vehicle for a while and pad life is a concern, strongly consider the ceramic. I don’t know the age of the Corolla, but if you’re not sure how long you’re keeping it, you may want to consider cheaper options including regular organic pads – especially if you’re not replacing the rotors ($) at this time. Bottom line – any name-brand pad is probably going to serve you pretty well. A Corolla doesn’t require tons of stopping power, and most pads with your vehicle are going to get you 50K miles (and probably more) depending on your driving conditions. I had a Plymouth colt that got 80K miles on the OEM (basic) pads.

Rotors are the metallic discs that “rotate” with the wheel. The pads come into contact with them when you hit the brakes. “Turning” the rotors (if they’re not too bad) is a way of re-using the rotors by machining/grinding away the rust, pits, and warping so they rotate evenly and contact the new pads evenly. Good luck!

    Dear Brake Job-

The ceramic ones are indeed the ones that are going to last the longest, but they are also made out of the hardest material and that is not good for the rotors.

The Ceramic Pads are going to cause your brake rotors to wear faster, then the next time you do your brakes you are going to be in for a very expensive brake job, because you are going to be replaing the rotors, normally to the tune of $100.00 each.

I would recommend that you head over to Toyota’s Parts Department and get the pads there.

One, they are what the car came with when it was brand new. Two, they are made from the correct material. Three, this is what your vehicle’s brakes were designed with. Four, there will be less of a likelyhood they will squeal after installation. Five, they come with extra hardware that should be replaced every time you do a brake job, and the aftermarket pads don’t come with that hardware, you have to purchase it seperately.

Remember what the other person told you about the rotors. If you already bought them, then you know how expensive they are. There is no reason to ruin them prematurely and cost yourself even more money.

Unless you are building a street racer, there is no reason to use the ceramic pads. They will only destroy your rotors that much faster. I would rather have a softer set of pads, and spend $30.00 than $100.00+ per rotor every time I do a brake job.

Keep in mind that if the rotors are too thin, they cannot dissipate the heat properly and will cause your brakes to fail when you may need them the most. You know, like down the hill on a curve with a nice telephone pole right there? Could get exciting!

I hope I helped you out!

Double edged sword. The ones that are best don’t usually last long. The ones that give you the best performance is racing pads, but won’t last more than few months. If you get crap one, then it would last long, but the performance is not going to be there.

Good balanced pads are carbon based, soft pads, and creates lot of brake dust. However, performance good for street performance and should last good 40 – 60K. I use HAWK HPS+, Mintex and PBR Deluxe brake pads for my cars. Replace rotors for every 100K or so.

Rotors are the wheel disc that the pads rub against to create friction to stop the car.
